Urgent Action for Detained Canadian Academics & Stand Up for Science Rally Sept 16th, Stauffer Library
Dear Members,
The York University Faculty Association (with the Canadian Association of University Teachers and Education International) have launched an online petition to pressure the Canadian and Egyptian governments to release Dr. Tarek Loubani (Western) and Prof. John Greyson (York) who were arrested in Cairo almost a month ago. Please consider signing the petition and forwarding it to your networks: http://www.labourstartcampaigns.net/show_campaign.cgi?c=1943.
Members of the Queen's community are organizing a rally in front of Stauffer Library on Monday, September 16th, 12-1pm to "Stand Up for Science." This is part of a larger national campaign organized by Evidence for Democracy, a group formed in 2013 to stop the erosion of science in the public interest. Their mandate is to ensure that the best available scientific knowledge and evidence is used to inform decisions that affect the health and prosperity of Canadians. The Queen's facebook event link is here: https://www.facebook.com/events/297246783748951/ and more about Evidence for Democracy can be found here: https://evidencefordemocracy.ca/. Join us at the rally if you can to support science for the public good.
